WELCOME TO CEDAR SHORES LODGE!
Click here for link to SARA'S BIG 50 PARTY THE NEWS FROM OUR "PEACE" OF LAKE MICHIGAN... This website was started in 2006 to help vacationers get to know our property a bit better when we were renting out our house. Since moving here permanently and making this place home in October of 2009, we have decided to turn this website into a place where we can share what is happening both at Cedar Shores Lodge and on board our sailboat Free Bird. We hope you enjoy our little page and pictures and if you have already joined us here, please come again and if not, we hope you will come for a visit some day soon! Wondering where Cedar Shores Lodge is???
We are on the lake side of the Door County peninsula. It is 60 miles across the lake to Frankfort, MI. We are just inside the Door County line, about 5 minutes north of Algoma and 13 minutes south of Sturgeon Bay. The lake gives us so many things. This time of year we see abundant water fowl, mergansers, loons, terns, Canadian geese and ducks of all kinds. We watch the big ships heading up and down lake and the fisherman just off shore. There is very little light pollution and the stars and galaxies we can see from our deck are amazing. As we get to know Door County better and better, we realize how much there really is do here. It is so fun to even as a resident continue to explore and discover new places to go. There are so many opportunities for recreation and entertainment, especially during the summer months. 2011 brought us many guests and it is our hope 2012 will bring us even more... APRIL: Spring in air always brings many things to us here at Cedar Shores Lodge, but primarily it means work! We are busy getting the boat prepped for launch. John had a few extra tasks to tackle there this year but are well on our way to sliding Free Bird in the water. Launch date is May 9th. John has also taken on the big project of re-decking the porch around our house with future plans to add a 3-season porch between the house and the garage. He's got a great start as you can see in the pictures below. The man can fix or build darn near anything! Sara has been busy getting all the gardens up and growing which is kind of hard to do when it is still getting so cold at night. Trying to get some seeds going indoors and wrapping up projects from the Winter. MAY: John will be taking off for San Francisco, Oakland actually, for a few days to visit his uncle Martin. It has been some time since he has seen him as Martin is no longer able to travel. He is looking forward to seeing him and getting him out of the house. JUNE: June brings the Steel Bridge Songfest. We have attended this celebration of music for the last 2 years and have enjoyed it thoroughly. There are 100's of performers from all over the world who gather in Sturgeon Bay doing "original" material and more. They sing and play everything from a guitar to a harp. Later in the month we have tickets to see Brandi Carlisle in Fish Creek. JULY; July brings us Independence Day celebrations galore here on the peninsula. AUGUST: Sailing, sailing, sailing...
July 2010, John's
brother Mark, niece Tina & her husband Wayne
My hubby taking a dip at Green Island!
"Bouncy" is our big water toy!
7/16 - Minneapolis friends, Bill & Jill Rost, their children Brian and Lindsey and their two friends Kyle and Evan came to visit for a couple days. Campfires, smores and lots of great sailing! The wind Gods smiled on us and we were hauling out on the waters of Green Bay!
7/29 we entertained John's brother Paula and his girlfriend Deb. We were joined on Saturday by his niece Joy so it was a big Wagner weekend.
8/3 marked the arrival of Sara's sister Carol, niece Susie and her four daughters Amelia, Audrey, Caroline and Clara. They spent lots of time in the water and we truly enjoyed having the kids there. The "big" people weren't too bad either...
+Friday, 8/13 we headed for the port of Green Bay to attend the Tall Ship festival. 40 knot winds made the going a bit tough as we neared Green Bay but we made it. We enjoyed the festival touring many ships but think that will be the last trip to the city of Green Bay by boat. We can say we did it but see no reason to go back...
8/21 the crew from Missouri arrives. Sara's sister Leslie, husband Colin and friends John & Candi Phillips came for a few days rest and relaxation. Took our 1st charter fishing trip and came back with 2 lake trout and 3 salmon. Good eats!
